1936  School # 4 was established instead of three small schools . It was opened in the building of the former Palace of Labour in Soviet Street. Its first headmaster was B.F. Divenko.

1940  This year a school year began in a new school building in Volkov Street.

1941-1945  On June 17, 1941 the school leavers were given their certificates of secondary education, but they had to give up their plans because in 5 days the Great Patriotic War began. The former students and their teachers went to the fronts. The school building was occupied by a hospital, but the schooling didn't stop, the lessons were given in another building. Though there was no electric light and heating and books and exercise-books were lacking. Senior pupils worked in the hospitals after classes. They also worked in plants and in the fields , collected warm clothes for soldiers and did defensive work. Groups of students gave concerts in hospitals . During World War II a lot of school leavers lost their lives defending our country. We honour their memory and it has become a tradition to put flowers to the School Memorial Board on Victory Day. On September 1, 1945 school opened its doors for the pupils again, it admitted only girls.

1946  School was named after N. A. Nekrasov to commemorate the 125th birthday of the great Russian poet whose life was closely connected with the Yaroslavl Region.

1954  Boys were admitted to school again, and in a mixed school life became more complicated but exciting.

1957  The timetable was revised to include optional classes of the English language. School # 4 became the first school specializing in English in the Yaroslavl Region. English teachers G. V. Lyakhova, R. D. Kozulina, L. G. Miftakhutdinova, E. N. Negoduiko headed by Head mistress A. F. Zhulina began to use new methods of teaching. The first guests from England, the USA and Canada had a warm welcome at school.

1963- 1965  School building was reconstructed : a library, a gym, an Assembly Hall and new English classrooms were built. A Drama Club was organized by E. K . Lukyanova . The actors from the Volkov Theatre ( the first professional theatre in Russia) helped talented pupils to stage Shakespeare's plays.

1968  The International Friendship Club was organized by G. A. Yefstifeeva, R. D. Kozulina, I. K. Gromysheva. It was very popular both with pupils and teachers as it gave a wonderful opportunity to communicate with young people from all over the world. Lectures and seminars held at school widened pupils' outlook and made it possible to understand current economic and political events.

1987- 1997  Y. Kulikov became Headmaster of our school. He maintained up-to-date methods of teaching and supported the teaching staff in all their initiatives. The life at school was boiling up. Students exchanges became very popular. Friendly relations were established with many schools and universities. In 1989 fifteen students and five teachers visited Lincoln Sudbury School on the invitations from the members of the choir " Sharing a New Song". They participated in discussing the development of Russian-American relations at Harvard University. It was an important contribution into the evolvement of people's democracy. While participating in the programme "President's Exchange" Northfield Mount Herman School in Massachusetts , the USA became our partner. The enthusiastic coordinators of this project were G. A. Yefstifeeva and Fred Johnson.. The students exchanges were organiszd by ACTR ( American Council of Teachers of Russian), a government agency in Washington, DC . In 1996 we established friendlyrelations with ABC Language School in Eastbourne , England and since that time groups of students have attended language summer courses and enjoyed learning English and British culture in the native surroundings. At present our school is an active member of the following exchange programmes " Freedom Support Act ", " American Field Service", " Harmony" and others. In 1996 our school celebrated its 60th anniversary. All kinds of activities were directed to organize an unforgettable festival of reunion of school leavers of all ages.

1998-2004  The last years saw vast improvements in many aspects of school life, from the modernization of the classrooms to the new methods of teaching and evaluating pupils' knowledge in different subjects. Our school has first-class teaching and research facilities and enthusiastic and dedicated teaching staff. According to the survey held at school the most popular teachers are our Maths teacher O. E. Karasik, Russian teachers V. M. Bogdanuk, L. A. Volostnova, Physics teacher O. V. Kuznetsova, History teacher I. N. Denisova and A. N. Kotova, Chemistry teacher E. A. Lenchenkova and English teachers N.N. Kirsanova, T.P. Gaiduchenko, E. V. Reutova, S. Yu. Shishkova, A. V. Dudina and many others. No doubt they are not only great teachers but remarkable personalities. All our English teachers are graduates and all have received training as teachers of English as a Foreign Language. In addition to their degrees, many of them have attended various courses which enabled them to raise their professional level. There are sports grounds and a gym and school offers a wide variety of sports ranging from football, volleyball to basketball. In addition to the sports facilities school offers a lot of spare-time activities. The school library, which has recently been renovated, today houses about 100,0000 books. We subscribe to a great variety of newspapers and magazines including the English language additions ( "The Moscow News", " September,1" " Foreign Languages at School"). We are proud of our collections of books, textbooks, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, audio and video materials in English. Some of them were presented by our friends from English speaking countries and our teachers and pupils. Our school contains a lot of computers which are used for learning English and communicating with teachers and students abroad as our computer classrooms are connected to the Internet. Some innovations have been introduced lately. Primary education starts at the age of six and lasts till the age of 10. Thus children stay at school for 11 years. Our long term policy is decided by the School Council and implemented by the Principal and all the Staff. Our aim is to develop and improve all our courses and facilities in the interests of our pupils.
