Traditions

Our school is one of the oldest schools in Yaroslavl. It has got a lot of traditions. September,1 has truly become the Day of Knowledge as our Assembly gathers together the teachers and pupils of all ages. Traditionally the first lesson has become a talk devoted to history, culture, other vital aspects of life in Russia.

Every year senior pupils participate and become winners in different contests, Olympiads. It is not surprising since nearly 50 percent of pupils get excellent and good marks in all school subjects. The most interesting event is the English Language Week usually held in December which encourages pupils to display their language skills in various quizzes, competitions, parties. They are usually devoted to history, culture, outstanding personalities of English-speaking countries. Among them are Robert Burns’ Party, ABC Party, We Travel to England, The Call of the Jungle, The Kingdom of English, The USA Quiz. Today it is impossible to imagine our school life without holidays we mark together with our pupils and their parents.

Victory Day is considered to be one of the most important national holidays. Though it becomes more and more difficult to organize pupils’ meetings with war veterans everything is done to enable pupils to learn about the horrors and misery of war from those who experienced them. Flowers are brought to the memorial board to honour the memory of our former pupils who lost their lives at the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

Many English and American holidays such as Christmas, St. Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween are widely celebrated in our school.

Our school is famous for its choir which brings together the best singers of all ages. The contest of best musicians, dancers, singers and actors is held every year. The winners of the contest participate in school concerts which give a lot of pleasure to teachers, parents and guests of our school.

Since the majority of our pupils live in all the six districts of Yaroslavl teachers try their best to give them an opportunity to gather together. That’s why visits to art exhibitions, museums, theatre as well as school trips to old Russian cities and towns: Rostov, Uglich, Tutaev, Pereslavl, Kostroma, and the capital city – Moscow and other cultural activities have become very popular. On May, 25 The Last Bell Party is held in all schools in Russia. It is both a happy and sad holiday when we say farewell to our school leavers, but we always look forward to seeing them at school Alumni Party on February, 2. We do understand that school is not only the place of education and feel sure that in the course of time new interesting traditions will appear.
